The Shorty Awards? What The Heck Are Those?
In case you have lived under a rock for the past five years, or if you don’t quite understand the power of social media yet, here’s some information you need to know about The Shorty Awards.
Having been dubbed the “Oscars of Social Media”, The Shortys Awards has become the place to be seen, shmooze and socialize over social media.
This year’s 5th Annual Shorty Awards (shortyawards.com) honored the best of social media and recognized the people and organizations producing real-time short form content across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Foursquare, Pinterest, and the rest of the social Web.
What To Wear To An Awards Ceremony?
Similar to most awards events, everyone gets dolled up and fancy. It can be a daunting task, especially for the host of such a prestigious event, but Felicia Day, (@feliciaday), somehow found a fantastic neoprene dress that felt so good, she invited everyone to touch her.
I’m sorry I missed that opportunity, but the video below explains how her dress for the evening’s festivities was chosen.

Another Long Ass Boring Awards Show?
NOT THE SHORTYS! The Shorty Awards are rapid fire quick, and fun. A total of 85 Awards are presented during the 90 minute Livestream event. Winners MUST give thanks in under 140 characters, thus avoiding a snoozefest.
The after parties (2 of them) get started way before the women start itching to get out of their high heels and uncomfortably tight dresses.
Best Celebrity Sightings!
The celebrities at the Shorty Awards are a little different from the ones you might meet at the Golden Globes, or the Emmys, but these peeps are doing amazing things, and creating fantastic work.
I was fortunate to meet a lot of great people, but I have to admit I was most excited to meet the talented, happy and creative, Yiying Lu, is an amazing Artist and Ilustrator, who designed the UBER cool animated GIF representing the Shorty Awards.
When Did This All Begin?
Five years ago, Greg Galant, CEO Sawhorse Media (picture here), and Muckrack.com, saw the need for honoring both the regular folks and the industry peeps that are “doing it right”.
I’m On The A-List And Love It!
I was excited to attend the shortys for my 3rd time, because I love to:
- Dress up
- Hang out with the cool kids
- Watch people get drunk at an open bar party
Thanks to The Shorty Awards for including me!
