Save For Retirement or See the World?

Dan and I keep arguing about whether or not, we should be saving for retirement. Since we’ve decided to see the world, while we are still able bodied, that just isn’t going to happen. No use trying to fight City Hall. The best I can do, is try to scrimp a little, and use mileage points wherever possible. Perhaps there will some money leftover for the nursing homes.

Budget Travel At 5 Star Hotels?

Admittedly, I am the “Queen of Traveling on a Tight Budget”, but this time I REALLY outdid myself. Dan and I spent 8 amazing nights at 4 different “5 STAR” Starwood properties and it only cost us $600 USD.

Le Meridien Bangkok

SPG Points- Starwood Preferred Guests

We used to stay in funky, quirky, and unusual hotels, that I’ve discovered on i-escape.com, but recently, Dan and I have been accumulating SPG points, on our Starwood American Express cards. Actually, we were each awarded 25,000 free points just for signing up for the American Express Starwood card. We decided to see if we could take advantage of those points, and make good use of the free Starwood Points.  Well, perky is EXACTLY what we got!

Such A Steal Of A Deal!

The price for these 8 nights of luxury, would normally cost approx $3400 USD, but with my master travel planning skills, we lived like royalty for a grand total of $640 USD.

Westin Bund

The Westin Bund-Shanghai, China.

In a superb location just minutes from the famous Bund walkway, we were able to stay at the Westin Bund for $110 per night, plus 12,000 points. Such a deal!

The Sheraton Royal Orchid, Bangkok

Our stay here cost us 8500 points per night, for a grand total of 17,000 SPG points. The 2 glorious nights we spent in our corner suite were complete with a breathtaking view and a boat to take us to and from, the main Skytrain station.

Sheraton Royal Orchid

Le Meridién Bangkok- This high-tech, super glossy room was decked out with electric window shades and sexy black marble everywhere. 8500 points per night. There’s something fantastic about checking out and not having any bill at all!

Le Meridién Bangkok

Le Meridién Koh Samui- Situated on quiet beach in Koh Samui, this 6 star Le Meridién resort was well worth the cash we laid out. We paid $440 USD for 2 nights lodging, 2 day’s of sumptuous breakfast buffets each, 1 night’s dinner for 2, and Round Trip airport transportation. It was magical.

Saving For The Future?

It’s obvious that the only thing we’re saving up for the future, will be more Starwood points. We’re off to see the rest of the world.
