Being My BEST Self! Thanks for the inspiration, Samantha Brown.

Earlier this year, I was privileged to hear Samantha Brown deliver an upbeat and entertaining KEYNOTE SPEACH, in Huntsville Alabama during TBEX Travel Blogger Conference.

I’m just a teeny bit embarrassed (maybe a little more) to admit that i didn’t know anything about Samantha Brown, prior to that day.

It’s not that I don’t watch TV, but somehow Ms. Brown and her long standing career as one of the most well known Travel Channel Hosts had eluded my own private universe.

What I did know, was that she was at Space Camp at the same time that I was there.  She was there filming an episode of her show, and we were asked NOT to take any photos of her.

Apparently, Samantha Brown is a very big deal.

Who knew?

Better Late Than Never, Right?

The point is, that everything happens for a reason, right?
Samantha Brown began her keynote speech at TBEX with a video montage of her past travel shows and I saw everything that I ever needed to know about Ms. Brown.

  • Adorable
  • Energetic
  • Fearless

It was crystal clear why everyone, including myself was lined up after the Q&A, to meet this delightful and audacious woman.

Samantha Brown Is My New Role Model

When Ms. Brown explained to the packed house of Bloggers and Travel Brands at the Von Braun Convention Center in Huntsville, “How I Got This Job”,  I immediately fell in love with her.

And, at that moment, I had a light bulb moment.

  • I’m very entertaining
  • People enjoy watching videos of my travel adventures
  • I can do this!

Why couldn’t I be JUST LIKE Samantha Brown? Well…I decided that I can.

Yes, I know that I’m no spring chicken… but I’m not dead yet.

I Think I Can I Think I Can

Upon my return from TBEX, my “soon-to-be” ex-husband and I declared our marriage OVER, and thus began my quest for travel host stardom (or something like that).

Throw all the spaghetti up against the wall and see what sticks

I’m pursuing many different avenues and revenue streams and with my newfound gumption, some noodles are sticking. The wheels are in motion.

I’ve recently landed a landed a role in an off-Broadway show, a lead in a short film, and a staged reading, all because the bad energy has moved out of my apartment. Sorry, Dan.

I’m having the time of my life acting in ‘The Great Pie Robbery,” I’m working on some more video content for the blog, and thinking about becoming a travel agent too.

  • How am I just NOW seeing this post?! Was she really there when we were at space camp? Like, I didn’t see her and you KNOW I love her! Heck…I knocked on a flipping curtain to introduce myself! haha

  • Thanks Sue! I’m doing my job if I’m making you laugh. a gentleman docent in the Space Museum spotted her and told her how much he enjoyed her work, and she asked him, “would you like a photo?” He was over the moon.

  • Samantha Brown has a few books, and has definitely been around the block…so to speak. As far as marriages go, the third time will have to be the charm for me:-) Moving on is the way to go!

  • I don’t think we get the Travel Channel anymore, but I know who Samantha Brown is. Did she ever have her shows on PBS? To me, she’s like the female Rick Steves. I find her very relateable for a woman of a certain age, such as myself. (My spell checker doesn’t think relatable is a word. It’s wrong).

I’m sorry to learn of the demise of your marriage, but having had 2 kinds of marriages myself, I know that sometimes it’s better to be moving on. For me, second time was the charm. 🙂
