Don’t You Love When This Happens?
You know when you forget one of your GAZILLION password for internet sites? Ugh! I love when being asked for a SECRET WORD to retrieve that ELUSIVE lost password:
- What was your first car?
- Where was your Grandmother born?
- What is your favorite food?
Please do not try to hack into my ebay account, but my favorite food is ice cream. SHHHHH!
Don’t judge me.
Until recently, I had no idea that many ice cream brands, as well as many other everyday items like margarines, biscuits, breads, cereals, noodles, shampoo, lipsticks and detergents all contain PALM OIL.
IS All PALM OIL BAD?
Ever since my trip to Singapore last October, when I had to walk around in a mask to protect myself from the poor quality air, I’ve been very concerned about the difference between Good and Bad Palm Oil.
Palm oil isn’t just bad news for the environment. It’s destroying the homes of animals like the orangutan and the Sumatran tiger and it is also having a devastating impact on people. This is an environmental, ethical and animal welfare nightmare, all rolled into one!
IS THERE SUCH A THING AS GOOD PALM OIL?
Well, there is now such a thing as GOOD palm oil. It helps to protect forests and wildlife where it is grown and secures an income for farmers by making more palm oil from less land.
However, good palm oil only accounts for 21% of all palm oil consumed globally, so that’s why we all need to share the story of #GoodBadPalmOil and make sure that brands and retailers know that we, as consumers, care about this issue and expect them to take action.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO CHANGE THINGS?
I would love if you would help by getting involved with a new campaign from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) called “What’s your food made of?”
Please HELP Share The Message!
The good news is that we are already starting to see change; 13 countries currently have RSPO certified producers, which translates to 3.6 million hectares of land, and many companies are displaying our RSPO trademark on their product packaging. We now need to build on this momentum, and RSPO is asking us all to get involved with the debate and share our campaign about good palm oil.
By 2020, RSPO wants ALL palm oil being used in our food to be sustainably sourced but we can only make that happen if you join us in putting pressure on the industry and letting them know we care.
It’s So EASY TO DO YOUR PART!
- Read more about the campaign, and help share the positive message of good palm oil on social media by clicking here:
- Look out for the RSPO symbol on products labels to reassure it only has RSPO-certified palm oil
Please visit microsite and say YES! To good palm oil! Just a few clicks of your mouse will help.
